When you sit down at your desk in the morning, how does your body naturally position itself? Usually, when we first sit down to work we are conscious of our posture. We take a moment to greet fellow co-workers and check our emails, maybe even grab a cup of coffee while deciding what tasks we need to accomplish throughout the day.
But as we become focused in on our work, things start to take a turn for the worst. Whether as a designer, content strategist, creative director, or CFO, we get immersed in the digital world and pile of work needed to keep the wheels turning. Pretty soon you realize you’ve been sitting at your desk for a long period of time without getting up or changing position. The more you sit and focus the more your back starts to slouch and your neck starts to crane forward.
It may be because you can’t see something on the screen or want to take a closer look at a detail before sending it out to the team. But all of that sitting and slouching adds up. You’ve been sitting with your neck sticking out for hours.
We know it’s hard to break old habits. But in order to be both healthy and productive at work we do have to make a change.
A monitor arm or mount is one piece of equipment that will help almost immediately. If your monitor is at a proper height, the top 1/3 should be in line with your eyes. By placing it correctly, you’ll notice those slouching habits start to recede. Your neck will stay in a straight position because your monitor will be at the perfect eye level.
With a 20″ height adjustability and 33″ horizontal extension, the LX Sit-Stand Desk Mount Arm will give a huge relief to your neck.
Another option is a chair that helps your back stay straight and comfortable.
Old chairs are easy to slip into, but that doesn’t make them ideal for support and comfort. We might as well be sitting on an old couch throughout the day. Try the Humanscale Freedom Chair and feel the difference in support.
