Why do my wrists hurt?
Whether you work at an office or work from home – If you are working on a computer chances are you’ve felt an ache or two. There are two things you can do, ignore it and let it get worse, or take action. They say knowledge is the best defense so here are a few facts we have gathered that may just be able to help you.
1. Arranging your activity and work space using ergonomic guidelines can help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. Office Ergonomics focuses on how a workstation is set up, including the placement of your desk, computer monitor, paperwork, chair, and associated tools, such as a computer keyboard and mouse. The same ideas can help you arrange your position for other daily activities.
2. Take note of your daily activities and be aware of what actions are causing this pain. There are always solutions but you must know what you’re doing wrong in order to fix it.
3. Always try to exercise. Stretching and yoga are helpful to those experiencing pain. You may also want to visit a physical therapist for advice.
4. Avoid repetitive activities at home and work that may be harsh on your wrist. If only one of your hands is affected, attempt to use the other one as much as possible.
5. Micro-breaks. Take short breaks about every twenty minutes. Stretch out your arms and wiggle your fingers in front of you. Take deep breaths and squeeze your shoulder blades together.
6. Poorly designed office furniture is a major contributor to bad posture. Chairs should be adjustable for height, with a supportive backrest. Custom-designed chairs, made for people who do not fit in standard chairs, can be expensive. However, the costs are often offset by the savings in medical expenses that follow injuries related to bad posture.
